The Trellis Practice Vision & Mission (2018)

Vision – To inform, support, guide and journey with individuals and communities of Faith in their healing and transformation of their mind and relationships, so to increasingly know God more intimately.

“Do not conform to the patterns of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind”. Romans 12:2

Mission – Whether through individual or couples private therapy, or the wider informing, education and equipping of the Christian community through workshops, conferences or digital channels. The Trellis Practice’s mission is to multiply the educating, empowering and enabling of each individual to know yourself more deeply, therefore to know your God more intimately. To take this self-actualising knowledge so to help others.

“My people perish for the lack of knowledge”. Hosea 4:6

The Need

Church Leadership – Stress and exhaustion in Christian ministry causes 70% of Christian leaders (ordained or Lay) to regularly consider resigning; ‘alone and isolated’, common terms used, creating a breeding ground for maladaptive coping mechanisms, addictions and relational breakdown.

Church Community – There is a tsunami of mental health needs, in the church, stunting faith.  A growing mission to support an objective of good mental health in our churches and wider communities. Self-care must not be allowed to become a ‘nice-to-have’, it’s essential.

Faith Seekers – Christians need to actively address the mental health stigma, creating supportive, active and well informed safe spaces.

It starts with me!  By bravely facing our personal, relational, faith, career, and life challenges to increasing effect, we become more self-aware, confident, content, and at peace with self, life and closer to Jesus. By understanding our own tendencies and weaknesses, we can better discern God’s will for our lives, His Church, His Kingdom mission.

The Action

The Trellis Practice is an initiative of its parent charity, One Life International founded by Nick Crowder in 2001 established to continue to build and facilitate practical Kingdom centred social impact, in the UK and developing countries.
It was out of Nick’s extended work in war-torn Liberia and Burundi, and latterly in partnership with Tearfund’s Inspired Individuals programme, that a clear direction and evolving calling came to be; to now support and equip individuals and small teams at their point of need, emotionally, psychologically and spiritually, in the UK and in-country.
The Trellis Practice holds the vision to expand on its widening partnerships and collaborations, its national impact. A vision to increase the enabling of individuals, couples and men to gain access to fundamental psycho-education that can be transformative to understanding oneself more acutely:
Why do they say, do, and react to the circumstances, and others, as they do? Why do they experience anxiety, fear, depression, or a lack of self-worth, security, or significance? What holds them back from achieving all that they desire? How can they function more healthily in personal, working and faith relationships? What has happened in their past that makes them who they are today?

“My people perish for the lack of knowledge – Hosea 4:6

How? – The Trellis Practice seeks to exponentially increase the ‘ripple effect’ and Kingdom impact via channels such as small groups, congregations, conferences, peer-to-peer and digital streams.
To be part of turning the tide of burnout in Christian leadership and the crippling tsunami of mental health, including porn’ addiction and other issues men struggle with within the church (and those exploring the Christian faith).
